Taking my GAME plan further

This week, my district rolled out the decision to change our math curriculum (Everyday Math) for next year. This is a great decision, especially since our old curriculum (Bridges in Math) had a lot of holes in it. So now I need to take this new curriculum into consideration when creating my Smart Responder (Senteo) assessments. We are supposed to be receiving our new materials next week, the last week of school. I will most definitely need to examine this new curriculum before I can move forward with my GAME plan.

So, my new steps that I will be adding to my plan are to thoroughly go through the new math program. This will help me to ensure that there are no new holes in this program. Also, I will need to see if we receive any technology support with EDM. If there is technology support or integration with this new program, then I'll need to take that into consideration.

The second issue that I have had come up is my instructional coach that I was going to work with recently accepted a new teaching position. We will be hiring a new I.C. for our school next year. It is their job to work with teachers, I'm just hoping that our new I.C. won't be too overwhelmed to help me out. Therefore, I now know just how much I need to get done over the summer. Good thing I'm not teaching summer school!! Onward and upward, I think that I will be able to overcome these minor road blocks with good planning.

  1. I love your attitude! Many teachers would be shutting down but you seem excited, that is wonderful!

I think the Everyday Math curriculum is a pretty good set, our elementary schools through 4th grade use it here in Fallon. I think that knowing you have time to go over the material will help.

Are there any online/computer based resources that come with the curriculum?

  2. Heather,
Your GAME plan sounds very doable and worthwhile, although switching math programs will be time-consuming, I'm sure.
I love to see technology integration at a young age, but if it is not continued throughout the district in all of the schools as the student progresses it is difficult for the students to show a lot of progress. This is the case in my district. I know we have the funds, but they go to other things besides technology.

    Good Luck!

  3. Thanks for the encouragement ladies! I feel like a lot of obstacles are coming down the pipe line, but I will overcome! We still have not received our new math materials, we only have 3 days of school left. I hope they get them to us before school is out. If not, I'll have to postpone my work on my GAME plan until the fall. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what I get.

  4. Heather,
I hope that your new curriculum will serve you well and that integrating technology comes smoothly. I am sorry to hear that your instructional coach will be leaving though. It sounds like this would be the time that you would need him/her the most. Perhaps you could try to talk to other teachers that have knowledge of new technology.

  5. Our school district went to everyday math 4 years ago and at first it was difficult due to the spiral effect but really the last two years have started to show some true difference. Just hang in there and keep the positive attitude because it holds a great deal of success for your students in the future.
